By now everyone would be aware of the case of the innocent child Pradyuman Thakur’s horrific death in his school that shook the nation. Here we will talk about what are the measures that have to be taken by every school to avoid any more life loss. Ryan School had many security lapses such as:
1. No separate toilets for kids and workers
2. Broken window grills in the toilets
3. CCTV cameras set in all the wrong places (most of them did not work)
4. Broken compound wall
5. Fire extinguishers well past their expiry date
Parents send their kids to school, thinking that they are in safe hands. A school has the at most responsibility to make sure that the security of the children is not compromised for whatsoever reason. Every school must have more nonteaching staffs (preferably women) posted near vulnerable areas such as school washrooms, Electrical rooms, Canteens, etc. And the CCTV cameras must be inspected time to time to verify if they are in working condition. Each student could be given an id card with inserted chip to track the kid’s movement; the identity card must also have an imbibed button that could be pressed to send SOS messages to staffs and parents. Thus, it may be concluded that all schools must have timely audits to check for any security lapses to avoid another Pradyuman from falling a victim.
