Redundant syllabus – Need For a Change
A very common joke among Parents on the syllabus prescribed by their school, Be it any board or class is: “Oh, Those Chapters, I had them when I was in School, now my son is learning the same.” Be it about Indian Economy’s Five year Plan or Chapters in History about the HARAPPA CULTURE , there is not much a change in the syllabus. The world is moving so fast that yesterday’s technology, be it mobile phones or Television sets becomes outdated today, but our kids study the same portions that we ourselves had studied as a student. Class VIII CBSE textbook still carries the literacy data from 2001, and the foreword bears the date 30.11.2007, which means the books are printed for 10 years without any change. Having realised this, NCERT has finally woken up and 182 textbooks would be updated in the coming academic year. The NCERT has also proposed to include chapters on Demonetization and GST in their syllabus.
